Other Environmental Works

From a 2002 visit to Cuba with the Puffin Foundation as part of the open back door between our two countries in the area of arts and sciences, these three paintings, inspired by the crumbling beauty of Cuba, were the result.

Pinar de Rio is the part of Cuba named for the pine groves along the river. It has an overwhelming beauty of foliage and mountains, as it sets against a remembered view of the romantic, peeling walls of Havana. Oil on paper, 21"X31".

Mariposa Dreams depicts the national flower, the mariposa, or butterfly lily blossoming against the old opera house and the domed Capitolo, once the headquarters of an old dictator. Oil on paper, 21"X31".

I Dream of Havana suggests the romance of the waterfront as you approach by sea contrasted with the handsome, falling-apart architecture of the city. Oil on paper, 21"X31".

I Never Promised You a Rose Garden contrasts an urban slum bordered by a drug paraphernalia-lined street with a lovely rose garden maintained by the neighborhood residents. Oil on canvas, 48"X 62"
